Abstract:
The main objective of this research is to examine how the media addresses the concept of protocol, focusing on the leading digital Spanish newspapers - El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia and ABC - during the period from 2016 to 2017. Using an empirical approach, the study seeks to determine whether the portrayal of protocol in the press aligns with the definitions established by scientific and academic disciplines. This work falls within a relatively unexplored area of study, considering protocol as a tool inherent to the field of Public Relations. However, it is frequently observed that the manner in which the term is treated in the media often results in the distortion of its true meaning mistakenly associating it with concepts such as ceremonial, courtesy, etiquette and good manners. The research delves into this conceptual dissociation through the analysis of an empirical sample, which rigorously addresses the social implications that this issue generates particularly within contemporary media and professional fields.
