The UOC’s research, development and innovation activity is organised into 51 R&I groups linked to a department or to one of the University’s three centres: IN3, the eHealth Center and the eLearn Center

Research, basically carried out by lecturers, currently specialises in the fields of arts and humanities, social sciences, health sciences, technology and communications: identity, culture, art and society; technology and social actions; globalisation, legal pluralism and human rights; fiscal studies, labour relations and social benefits; the Internet, digital technologies and new media; information and communications systems and services, and information and communications management. Two particularly important areas for the University’s scientific activity must be highlighted: the information and knowledge society and virtual learning (e-learning).
