Inaugural lecture 2015-2016

Art and knowledge for the common good, by Manuel Borja-Villel

The inaugural lecture for this new academic year has moved to Madrid thanks to the invitation received from Manuel Borja-Villel, director of the Museo Reina Sofía. He has generously opened the doors to the museum and let us record the lecture in one of its most emblematic rooms, the 1937 Pavilion of the Spanish Republic, which holds, among other works, Guernica.

Twenty years ago, the UOC was founded as the result of innovation in the university sector. Two decades on, we have reached an agreement with the Museo Reina Sofía to create the world’s first online bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. We share not only a desire to use innovative formats, but also a desire to understand the role of art and knowledge in our societies, and to understand the transformations affecting our museums and universities.
