The UOC is hosting a leadership school to foster the digital transformation of European universities

From 14 to 18 November, the members of the consortium of the European project Digital Transform (D-Transform) are organizing the 1st Leadership School in Europe (, aimed at presidents, vice presidents and senior managers of institutions of higher education to turn them into agents of change so that universities adapt to the needs of the digital age. The school will be opened by Josep A. Planell, President of the UOC, with Marta Aymerich, Vice President for Strategic Planning and Research, and the sessions will also see the participation of Pastora Martnez, Vice President for Globalization and Cooperation, and Carles Sigals, Vice President for Teaching and Learning.

Hotel Silken (Avinguda Diagonal 205) and the UOC's Tibidabo centre (Avinguda Tibidabo 39-41), in Barcelona, will host a series of sessions with international experts from innovative universities and other sectors of society. They will offer those working in institutions of higher education an update in knowledge, skills and attitudes for decision-making in the use of digital technologies in learning and teaching and for the digital transformation of institutions to adapt them to a global and changing environment.

The subject areas to be discussed include understanding concepts on the millennial generation, digital visitors and digital natives; promoting digital libraries and study areas adapted to the digital environment; overcoming academic resistance to teaching in ICT; new online assessment methods; adapting the institutional quality assurance system of the national and European contexts; comparative assessment of the advances in digital learning; change management techniques derived from theory and good business practices; business models for MOOC courses; advantages and disadvantages of working with the private sector; lessons to learn from innovative providers and learning analysis, ie ensuring that it is useful for institutional needs.

The project

The 1st Leadership School is promoted through D-Transform, a research project with the support of the European Union to prepare higher education leaders to be the artificers of change of the university of tomorrow through a training programme focused on the fundamental role played by digital technologies and open education resources (OER). Funded by the Strategic Partnerships sub-programme –attached to the Erasmus+ European funding programme– it has a total budget of nearly half a million euros, it began in 2014 and will end next year.
