Talk: "How the UOC can contribute to the aims of Agenda 2030"

#GSUOC

Beyond the international development cooperation projects, the UOC is proposing to promote social change through the transfer of knowledge, research, training and university policies and management.

The talk “How the UOC can contribute to the aims of Agenda 2030" with José Ruiz-Postigo, head of the Leishmaniasis Control programme at the Department of Neglected Tropical Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Switzerland, and Evariste Karambizi, manager of the Peacebuilding and Peacekeeping programme of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)”, will explore the ways the University can incorporate sustainable development goals within education, research and university strategies.

From the Globalization and Cooperation department, we are promoting the series of talks, Building a global, social UOC, to reflect jointly on issues related to the new strategy and the Action Plan for a global, social UOC.

Throughout the year, we will invite local and international experts to visit the University and share they knowledge and talk with us. We hope that this cycle of talks will contribute to thinking about the our University’s globalization model and the social responsibility and impact we aim to promote at the UOC.

Program

The UOC is participating in the joint reflection of Catalan and Spanish universities on the integration of SDGs within the university, both transversally through university policies, and through spheres of activity:  training, research and transfer of knowledge.

What role should the university play in order to achieve the overall challenges proposed by Agenda 2030? In addition to promoting university development cooperation initiatives and projects, which work to resolve social, economic and environmental needs, the UOC is committed to contributing to sustainable development through:

- Research and innovation in various disciplines in order provide a solution to global challenges.

- Education and training, by training professionals and citizens who are responsible and committed to society, and able to meet the challenges of a global world, through e-learning.

- University policies which cover SDGs and social commitment in a transversal manner.

Given by José Ruiz-Postigo of WHO and Evariste Karambizi of UNITAR, this talk will describe two cases which exemplify the UOC’s contribution to Agenda 2030:

- The UOC and WHO collaboration in research and online training to improve the treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis. Two joint strategies that are applying SDG3 to put an end to epidemics of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

- The UOC and UNITAR collaboration with the Conflictology programmes, which train United Nations officials working on the ground in conflict resolution, promoting the fulfilment of SDG16, to promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies.

We invite you to participate in this talk by exploring with us other ways of integrating SDGs in university actions and initiatives, such as research projects, the design of final master’s degree projects and doctoral theses, the programme of studies, teaching innovation projects, university volunteering, awareness-raising campaigns, and innovation, social commitment and university management initiatives.

This conference is open to the whole of the UOC community and anyone with an interest in the fields of university and research.

This session will be in English without an interpreting service.

Registration is open to everyone and free of charge. Places are limited.
