UOC doctoral students working in companies to produce theses on competitive intelligence, artificial intelligence and metaheuristics

Industrial doctoral programmes

Three new UOC doctoral students are set to produce their theses within companies under an Industrial Doctorates programme promoted by the Catalan Government. Its aim is to boost the competitiveness and internationalization of Catalan industry, to attract and retain talent and to provide doctoral students with the opportunity to carry out research projects in companies.

Roman Buil will work on his thesis Applications of Machine Learning, Simulation and Metaheuristics in Solving Real-World Problems at Accenture, with Daniel Riera, a researcher from the Internet Computing & Systems Optimization (ICSO) research group, as his thesis supervisor. The goal of his project is to integrate a range of techniques to find solutions to real-world problems.

Alfons Freixes will be developing his thesis Applications of Analytics to Smart and Sustainable Cities at Euncenet, with Ángel Juan, the principal investigator from the ICSO group, as his supervisor. His research is seeking to provide solutions based on artificial intelligence for some of the challenges identified in the context of smart and sustainable cities.

Javier de Ramón will be producing his thesis Intel·ligència competitiva en l'organització de fires i el seu impacte al territori: Cas de Fira Barcelona (Competitive intelligence in the organization of trade fairs and its impact on the territory: Fira de Barcelona case study) at Fira de Barcelona, with Eva Ortoll, a researcher from the Knowledge and Information Management in Organizations Research Group (KIMO), as his tutor. The goal of his study is to analyse the impact of competitive intelligence on trade fair organizers and their territories of influence.
